How do you know if I’m the right therapist for you?

I believe that regardless of the modalities used in therapy, the relationship between client and therapist is the foundation for healing. We all need someone in our lives who is highly attuned to us. Sometimes that’s your own parent, sometimes it’s a friend, and sometimes it’s a therapist.

I might be a good fit if:

You prefer to be in person, in a warm and cozy office (I’ll offer you a cup of tea)

You are ready to explore the root of what’s bothering you (sometimes this takes awhile)

You are looking for a therapist with a casual demeanor (we laugh a lot in my office!)

I might not be a good fit if:

You prefer telehealth

You want advice

You want me to “fix” you or someone else

How I Treat Feelings of Overwhelm, Anxiety, Grief, Distress, and More….

Moms come to me because they are feeling distress, either due to having experienced a trauma or a loss, parenting challenges, developmental hurdles, or identity shifting, to name a few.

I use a variety of different therapeutic modalities to treat a range of mental health challenges. Oftentimes, as a mom, you are struggling because you feel like you’re being pulled in two different directions on the inside of yourself. For instance, there’s a part of you that might love being a mom and feels a sense of pride for how you care for your children. And, simultaneously, there’s a part of you that just wants some alone time and doesn’t want to have to mom all the time. And that makes you feel ashamed. Both parts are valid and need loving attention.

If you are feeling guilty for taking time for yourself to go to therapy, you’re not alone.

Almost every mom I work with struggles with this. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Therapy gives you space to refill your cup so you can show up in your life with more steadiness, compassion, and energy.

I use Internal Family Systems and The Mom Parts Method™ to help you find some relief and tease it all apart. I also use Brainspotting when things feel particularly stuck. I’m a holistic therapist, so if we determine you need a referral to a doctor, a psychiatrist, a bodyworker, or some other kind of healer, we will work together to make sure you are getting the care you need and deserve.

Our work together is a calm, grounded, safe space where you don’t have to hold everything together or pretend you’re okay. You can show up exactly as you are—tired, overwhelmed, numb, hopeful, or unsure. I help you untangle what’s going on beneath the surface so you can feel more like yourself again.

The Process

Step 01:

See if We're a Fit

Schedule a free 15 minute phone call with me. You’ll tell me what you’re hoping for by doing therapy with me, and I’ll tell you about how I might do that. Together we will determine whether it’s a match.

Step 02:

Logistics

We’ll see if we can find a regular time in our schedules that will become your special weekly appointment. I’ll send you over to my stellar Office Manager, Jen, and she’ll send your intake paperwork, which I require to be filled out prior to our first session.

Step 03:

 Your First Session

In our first session, we will go over your intake docs, complete our informed consent, and get to know each other better. This is also an opportunity to ask me any questions you might have.

Frequently Asked Questions

What issues or concerns do you specialize in?

Motherhood is my jam! My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore what’s happening in your life and move toward healing and growth. I consider myself, first and foremost, a grief therapist. This is because I believe every challenge we experience has an underlying thread of grief (and probably shame, but shame needs grief to heal.) I work with moms who are navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, overwhelm, perfectionism, developmental and situational trauma, life transitions, and relationship struggles.

What type of therapy do you offer?

I draw from approaches that are both evidence-based and tailored to your unique needs. This includes Internal Family Systems, Brainspotting, and Companioning for Grief. Think of it as us working together to find what feels most supportive and effective for you. I like to remain creative and flexible so you get to experience maximal healing.

What can I expect during the first session?

The first session is all about getting to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’d like to work on, and any questions you may have for me. It’s a chance for us to see if we’re a good fit, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.

How long is a typical session?

Most sessions last about 50 minutes, giving us enough time to explore what’s on your mind without feeling rushed. I am happy to do longer sessions if we agree that would be helpful. The session fees will be prorated.

How often will we meet?

In the beginning, many clients find that meeting weekly helps build momentum. Over time, we may adjust the frequency depending on your goals and comfort level.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

Everyone’s journey looks a little different. Some people come for just a few months to work through a specific challenge, while others find ongoing support helpful for deeper, long-term growth. We’ll decide together what feels right for you.

Do you offer in-person, online, or hybrid sessions?

I am currently only accepting new clients who are able to come to my office in person. That typically means these are moms located in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Campbell, Palo Alto,
Cupertino, Willow Glen, and/or Santa Cruz (or somewhere else in Silicon Valley) who are looking for therapy. We all look at our screens too much! That being said, life happens, and sometimes we need to go online (none of us will ever forget the great pivot that COVID brought us…)

Is therapy confidential?

Absolutely — your privacy is very important to me. What you share in therapy stays between us. The only exceptions are rare situations where I’m legally or ethically required to break confidentiality, such as if someone is in immediate danger. I’ll go over these details with you when we start our sessions so you feel fully informed.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can easily schedule a session by emailing me directly or hello@rebeccageshurilmft.com (my amazing Office Manager, Jen, will contact you). I try to make the process as simple and stress-free as possible.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, I ask for at least 48 hours notice. This allows me to offer the spot to another client. Missed sessions or late cancellations will be charged the full session fee.

Do you offer consultations before therapy?

Yes! I offer a brief phone call so we can talk through your questions and see if working together feels like a good fit.

What should I prepare for my first session?

Nothing special is required — just yourself. It can be helpful to think about what you’d like to focus on, but you don’t need to have everything figured out. Therapy is a place where we discover those answers together.

Can I switch therapists if I feel it's not a good fit?

Absolutely. Finding the right therapist is a very personal decision. If at any point you feel I’m not the right match, I’ll fully support you in finding someone who better fits your needs. You are even welcome to look at the other therapists at Second Street Collective to see if there’s someone who might be a better match.

What are your fees for individual, couples, or family sessions?

My current rates for a 50 minute session are $275 for an individual & $300 for couples. For Babyspotting sessions, I charge $150 for a 30 minute session and require a four-session minimum. I review my rates every December and will notify you with at least two weeks notice if they increase. I’ll always be upfront about costs, so there are no surprises.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not accept insurance directly. I am happy to provide you with a “superbill” that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. It is up to you to contact your insurance company to determine if and how much they will reimburse for an out-of-network provider. Payment in full is required at the time of your session.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced fees?

Yes, I offer a limited number of reduced-fee slots for clients who may need financial flexibility. Please feel free to ask me about current availability.

How do I pay for sessions?

When you fill out your initial paperwork, it will require you to add a credit card. This makes it easy for my HIPAA-compliant Electronic Health Record software (SimplePractice) to automatically charge you after our session is completed and saves our session time for therapy and fewer logistical things. If this does not work for you, please let me know so we can discuss alternative options.

Can I contact you between sessions?

You’re welcome to reach out for scheduling or quick clarifications. Email is best and I will respond as quickly as I can, during regular business hours. For anything deeper, I recommend bringing it into our next session so we can give it the attention it deserves.

What should I do in case of a mental health emergency?

I’m not able to provide emergency support outside of sessions. If you’re ever in immediate danger or feel unsafe, please call 911 (or your local emergency number), or go to the nearest emergency room. You can also call or text 988 in the U.S. to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

For moms after hours, you can also call 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262) for the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline. They provide 24/7, free, confidential support before, during, and after pregnancy.

Do you provide letters for emotional support animals, court, or accommodations?

No, I do not.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes! Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many concerns. It can also make therapy more convenient and accessible. I use telehealth primarily when you’re sick but you don’t want to cancel your session, or if I need to work from somewhere other than my office.

What platform do you use for virtual sessions, and is it secure?

I use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform called SimplePractice, designed specifically for therapy, so your sessions remain private and protected. With your consent, I will use an AI Notetaker application that is embedded within SimplePractice to document our sessions, for my own use. These notes are never shared with anyone else, unless subpoenaed by a court of law.

Are there tech requirements for online sessions?

All you need is a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking. Headphones can also help with privacy.

Are you ready to get to know yourself a little better?

I’m guessing it took a lot to get to this point and you’re ready to start your healing journey. If so….let me know.
